McAllen police officers responded to a call at the 3100 block of Scenic Way Avenue after dispatch received a report of minors possibly consuming alcohol at a residence, according to an official report. After officers arrived, they made contact with a boy walking out of the house who had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, police said.
A short time later, a woman who identified as Tina Mclntyre opened the door, asked officers, “What was going on?”, and allowed them to enter the home. Once inside, officers reported hearing several teens whispering, “Shush, the police are here,” and “Hide the drinks.”
When officers walked toward the back of the house, they saw several bottles and cans of alcohol, as well as red plastic cups containing alcoholic drinks. About 22 minors were present.
When officers asked their ages, the teens said they were between 16 and 17. According to the report, the minors told police they were attending a “prom after-party,” and that the homeowners provided the alcohol and allowed them to drink.
The homeowners were identified as Tina and John, the two suspects arrested by the authorities. All 22 minors were cited at the scene, authorities said.
Police arrested both Tine and John and later released them on the same day after each posted a $ 4,000 bond, according to Hidalgo County jail records.
