Raquel Melo, the mother of the victim, said in a statement, "I want justice for my son and I am giving full space for the law." According to authorities, Tollinche has been the subject of trolling recently over a TikTok trend. Many on the internet believed that the killing stemmed from social media disputes.
However, Raquel believes it's not the case. In a statement, she said, "I don't know what false narratives are out there about my son being involved in a social media dispute with this guy. There is absolutely no evidence of that. This is people running with information that they're grabbing from different videos."
The grieving mother continued, "I had a wonderful son. I just want him to be remembered for who he was. And it was a goofy self. He was the clown of the house. He instigated all the fun stuff."
The killing occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the NYPD, Tollinche stabbed Melo in the back during a heated dispute outside a building on Beach Avenue in Soundview. Melo was rushed to the hospital, but he could not be saved.
