Two Teens Charged After Citywide Theft Spree In Chicago

Two teenage boys were recently arrested by Chicago police, connected to multiple burglaries across the city on Friday.

According to a news release from the Chicago Police Department, the arrests were made after members of multiple units worked together to conduct an ATM-burglary enforcement mission and investigation in the early morning hours of April 17, 2026.

The investigation occurred following a series of ATM burglaries across the city.

Two Juveniles Charged With Burglary, Trespassing In Chicago Crime Spree

According to the authorities cited in the aforementioned press release, the Chicago Police Department officers were actively monitoring police radio for commercial burglary calls citywide when, at approximately 3:25 a.m., four offenders broke a window at a business in the 3500 block of W. Fullerton Ave. in Logan Square, indicating the arrested were part of a larger group.

Subsequently, they stole an ATM from inside the business and fled in a vehicle that authorities later confirmed was stolen.

"Community assistance helped identify the vehicle that was used," the press release stated.

The officers later responded to a business alarm at approximately 5:30 a.m., which had been activated in the 3600 block of W. 26th St. in Little Village. Upon their arrival, they found out that multiple people had stolen an ATM and a cash register from the store.

Video evidence reviewed by investigators also confirmed that the same vehicle used in the earlier burglaries was also used in this incident.

A 17-year-old male juvenile and a 16-year-old male juvenile, who participated in these robberies, were eventually arrested after authorities tracked the movements of the offenders and conducted surveillance with assistance from the ATF Chicago Field Division.

The juveniles, whose identities have not yet been revealed, were charged with three felony counts of Burglary and one misdemeanour count of Criminal Trespass to Vehicle.

The investigation also led to the recovery of seven firearms, "three of which were fully automatic."

"Multiple stolen items were also recovered, including two damaged ATMs from previous incidents, cash and cash register drawers. Burglary tools and vehicle reprogramming devices were also recovered," the news release added.

According to authorities, an 18-year-old male, identified as Avion Moore, who lives at the property where the weapons were recovered, also faces multiple felony weapons charges.

He was charged with three felony counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Machine Gun/Automatic Weapon, three felony counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, and one felony count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Rifle < 16 in.- Shotgun <18in.

The mission was coordinated by Members of the Area Three Detective Division and Property Crimes Mission Team, the Citywide Robbery Task Force, the Auto Crimes Team, the Area Two Detective Division Homicide Investigation Support Team, the 4th District Tactical Team, the District Intelligence Officers, and the Wanted Vehicle Section, the press release added.

It continued:

"These charges are the result of the strong partnership within CPD to address recent commercial burglaries. The focus of the involved officers was to bring justice to the victimized businesses and prevent additional burglaries that could have been committed by these offenders."
