Texas Shooting: Two 'Undocumented Immigrants' Charged With Capital Murder After Unborn Baby Dies

Two men have been charged with capital murder after shooting a pregnant teen in Dallas, killing her unborn baby.
Two men have been charged with capital murder after they shot a pregnant teenager, killing her unborn baby, on May 10. The suspects, identified as Yeremy Aleman Zapata, 17, and Keyner Ariel Calero-Jiron, 20, are facing capital murder charges.
According to officials, the teenage victim was critically injured during the attack. She was pregnant at the time, and first responders tried to save both lives. Although the mother survived, her unborn baby could not be saved.
The Suspects Got Into A Dispute With The Victim’s Boyfriend

According to the Dallas Police Department, the incident unfolded at 12:40 a.m. on May 10. Officers were called to the 4600 block of Wimbelton Way. The suspects allegedly got into a dispute with an unidentified man, later confirmed to be the girl’s boyfriend. Zapata and Calero-Jiron chased him as he drove away and fired at his car.
A 22-week pregnant woman was struck in the pelvis during the shooting. She was taken to a hospital by the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department. Although she survived, her unborn baby died following an emergency C-section. Police found a handgun, cocaine, and ecstasy inside the suspects’ car.
In addition to the capital murder, the suspects face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, drug offenses and firearms violations.
The men face capital murder charges under Texas law, which allows prosecutors to pursue a case as homicide if it involves an unborn child. If convicted, they could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Suspects Confirmed To Be Illegal Immigrants

Following the arrests, Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed the immigration status of the accused. The agency said both men are undocumented immigrants. Zapata is a Honduran national, while Calero-Jiron is a Nicaraguan national, both living in the United States illegally. According to Fox 4 News Dallas, Calero-Jiron entered the country in 2022. Both suspects could also face deportation proceedings.
Cynthia Trevino, the victim’s grandmother, spoke with Fox4 News Dallas following the incident. The woman said the family was “very, very happy” with the pregnancy news. “It was a blessing for us, and they took it away from us. I am very angry,” she said.
The grandmother added, “They’re going to live with that for the rest of their life. They destroy their own lives because they’re young.”
