In December 2025, a high school student in Spring, Texas was shot dead in his own home. After more than two months of investigation, police have now arrested the suspects. Members of the Violent Criminals Apprehension Team (VCAT) have arrested two 16-year-old boys in connection with the murder.
The victim has been identified as Michael Spivey, an 18-year-old . According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Spivey left his home in the 17300 block of Edsall Drive to meet someone on December 26, 2025. He soon returned home and was joined by one or two people.
The Victim Was Shot in the Back of His Head
Two suspects in the fatal shooting of a high school student has been arrested.
Spivey was then shot in the back of his head inside his bedroom. The victim’s mother, Vanessa Garcia, has claimed that the suspects took advantage of Spivey’s kindness. In a statement to Eyewitness News, Garcia said her son considered the two accused boys his friends, but they instead shot and robbed him.
“They said they needed help that night to come charge their phones, and he let them in. They took advantage of my son's kindness,” Garcia said. The mother added that the accused did not stop at killing him, and instead went online to joke about his death by making songs about him.
“These boys who did this to my child only made it harder by going online and making songs about him, making fun of him like if my son was a joke,” Garcia continued.
The motive behind the alleged killing remains unclear, and investigators have not yet disclosed what led them to the two teenage suspects.
The first suspect was arrested on March 14, followed by the second on March 16. Identities of the two suspects have not been revealed. Both have been charged with murder and are being held at the Harris County's juvenile detention center.
Harris County Sheriff Announced the Arrests on Social Media
Announcing the arrests, Gonzalez released a statement on social media on March 16 and said, “On Saturday, 3/14/26, a 16-yr-old male was charged with murder for his alleged involvement in Spivey’s death. He was arrested by members of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and was booked into the juvenile detention center.”
“Today, a second 16-yr-old male was charged with murder for his involvement in Spivey’s death. He, too, was arrested by VCAT and booked into the juvenile detention center,” Gonzalez said.
Meanwhile, Garcia does not want the alleged murderers to be treated as juveniles and is demanding life imprisonment for both.
“A juvenile is a child who doesn't know what they're doing yet. They knew what they were doing. They went there with the intent to do it,” she said.
The case is still under investigation, and more details are likely to come out as the probe continues.
