A Venezuelan fugitive has been arrested after his pregnant wife was accidentally shot in the stomach. The man, who was living in North Carolina, was reportedly intoxicated at the time. When his wife attempted to take the gun away from him, she accidentally shot herself in the stomach. The unborn baby died, police said.

Wife Tries To Take Away Gun From Drunk Man, Ends Up Losing Unborn Baby
Luis Marcano-Marcano, 41, was reportedly intoxicated on April 11 during a birthday celebration at their home. The incident unfolded after guests left the party, leaving him alone with his seven-month-pregnant wife, Sabrina Campos.
According to the man, the pair were on the back porch and had an argument. He said he took his pistol and began shooting at the ground near his wife’s feet. When he placed it on the rail of the back porch, Campos went to grab it.
When she tried to put it in her pocket, that’s when the incident occurred, as she accidentally shot herself in the stomach, “killing the unborn baby,” the police report stated.
According to WBTV, before police arrived, Marcano-Marcano threw the weapon into the woods and took his wife to the hospital. He was later arrested in Mint Hill near Charlotte and charged with discharging a firearm within city limits.

The Man Has Outstanding Arrest Warrants In Venezuela
According to court documents obtained by WBTV, he has outstanding warrants in Venezuela, although it remains unclear what the charges against him are. According to the outlet, he is also a known member of the Tren de Aragua gang.
According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Marcano-Marcano has been placed under an ICE detainer.
He is currently being held on a $1 million bond. WBTV noted that a judge said he is “a danger to the public.” Although he has not been charged with murder or manslaughter yet, North Carolina law allows for charges in cases involving the death of an unborn child under certain circumstances.
Authorities have yet to reveal more about his immigration status or additional details surrounding the incident.
