Where Are Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell Now? Inside Their Lives After a Shocking Doomsday Plot

Lori Vallow Daybell said in a 2025 interview that she believes she and Chad Daybell will eventually be exonerated.
The Vallow-Daybell doomsday murders were among the most chilling crime sprees involving Lori Vallow Daybell and Chad Daybell, beginning in July 2019.
The couple led a small apocalyptic religious group that was widely described in the media as a doomsday cult. Four people were killed in a series of carefully planned murders that shocked the country.
Chad claimed to have visions of the future and prophesied that the world would end in July 2020. Meanwhile, Lori allegedly believed she was a deity destined to play a key role in the apocalypse.
The Beginning of the Killings
The killings began in July 2019, when Lori’s brother, Alex Cox, fatally shot her estranged husband, Charles Vallow.
Lori’s daughter, Tylee Ryan, and adopted son, J. J. Vallow were last seen alive in September 2019 near their Idaho home. Their remains were later discovered on property owned by Chad.
In October 2019, Lori’s nephew-in-law, Brandon Boudreaux, survived an attempted shooting. Chad’s wife, Tammy Daybell, however, was killed weeks later at the couple’s home in Rexburg, Idaho.
Lori and Chad married just two weeks after Tammy’s death.

How Authorities Arrested the Accused
Authorities were already investigating the disappearance of the children when Lori was questioned in late November 2019 about J.J.’s whereabouts. In what investigators viewed as a suspicious move, Lori and Chad abruptly left Idaho and traveled to Hawaii.
In February 2020, Lori was arrested on charges related to the desertion and non-support of her children.
After investigators discovered the children’s remains, Chad was taken into custody on June 9, 2020. Cox, whom authorities believed participated in the crimes, died due to a blood clot before he could even be arrested.
Authorities Establish Motive
On May 25, 2021, Chad and Lori were charged with the first-degree murders of Tylee, J.J., and Tammy.
Prosecutors alleged that the couple conspired with Cox to commit the murders partly because of their apocalyptic beliefs, but also to eliminate obstacles to their affair and collect life insurance money and the children’s Social Security benefits.
In separate trials, both Lori and Chad were found guilty on all charges. Lori received multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole, while Chad was sentenced to death. Both have appealed their sentences.
How Did Vallow and Daybell Meet?
Around 2015, Lori became interested in Chad’s Standing in Holy Places book series. In October 2018, she attended an event where she met Chad for the first time.
According to court testimony, Lori behaved flirtatiously toward Chad at the conference, while Chad allegedly told her they had been married in multiple past lives. The two soon began an affair.
