Who Was Adrian Valdovinos? 25-Year-Old Boxer’s Life Cut Short in Tragic Love Triangle Shooting

Young boxer Adrian Valdovinos, 25, dies in tragic California murder-suicide case.
Boxer Adrian Ruben Valdovinos, who made his professional debut in 2018, competed in 11 bouts over 37 rounds and maintained an impressive 75 percent knockout rate through 2021.
At just 25, Valdovinos appeared to have a promising future ahead after building an early reputation in the ring. However, his life was tragically cut short after he became involved in a murder-suicide incident on May 3.
Valdovinos was shot dead in what investigators described as a deadly love triangle.
Crime Scene Details
At around 4:12 a.m., the Hanford Police Department received a 911 call from a residence in the 1500 block of University Avenue. Authorities said that during the call, a man and a woman could be heard arguing in the background.
After arriving at the scene, officers witnessed Vincent Diaz, the ex-husband of Valdovinos’s girlfriend, fatally shoot himself.
While officers were able to safely remove the woman from the residence, they were unable to save Valdovinos, who authorities said had been shot moments earlier in what investigators described as a deadly love triangle.
“When the first officer arrived on scene, he heard an active verbal disturbance coming from inside the residence,” the Hanford Police Department said in a statement. “The officer identified himself as a police officer to the occupants inside. Shortly after, the male, identified as Vincent Diaz, turned a firearm on himself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
The statement continued, “Officers were able to safely remove the female from the residence and then conducted a protective sweep of the home. During the sweep, officers located a second male, identified as Adrian Valdovinos, deceased inside a bedroom with gunshot wounds.”
Investigators said Diaz had allegedly forced his way into the residence before shooting Valdovinos, who was reportedly the woman’s current boyfriend, and then turning the gun on himself.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, authorities said.
Adrian Valdovinos Remembered
More than 500 friends, family members, and people from the boxing community gathered on May 6 to remember and pray for Valdovinos.
A large crowd of mourners held candles during the vigil, while a memorial display featuring candles and photographs was arranged on the steps of the Hanford Civic Auditorium, according to The Hanford Sentinel.
Valdovinos’ father, Robert Santiago Aguilar, was seen greeting supporters and well-wishers throughout the candlelight vigil.
Family, friends, and members from the boxing community gathered at Civic Center Park in downtown Hanford for a candlelight vigil.
“Although his life was far too short, Adrian made a lasting impact on so many people,” his brother Ruben Valdovinos wrote following the vigil.
“The love shown tonight was a reminder of the kind of person he was and the way he touched the lives of everyone around him,” World Boxing News reported.
“He loved spending time with my dad watching soccer and boxing. I’d walk into the living room, try to watch a soccer game, get bored after 30 seconds, and leave,” Ruben Valdovinos added. “Adrian would sit there the entire game right alongside my dad. Those were moments he genuinely loved.”
A family member pens an emotional note on social media.
Authorities said Diaz and his ex-wife had separated in August 2025. According to ABC7, she had allegedly sought a restraining order against him involving their child.
Police also told the outlet that neither Diaz, a convicted felon, nor Valdovinos had any known prior interactions before the fatal shooting.
