Wife Arrested in Husband’s 2002 Death After 24-Year Cold Case Breakthrough

A 55-year-old woman has been apprehended in connection with the death of her husband in 2002.
The Frisco Police Department appears to have cracked a cold murder case after 24 years. In 2002, the body of a man named Frank Weiss was found near Lake Lewisville in Texas. However, at the time, investigators could not determine who was responsible for the man’s death.
Now, more than two decades later, the police have arrested Weiss’s wife, Lisa Honrud, on the accusation of his murder. The 55-year-old woman was taken into custody from her home in Waxahachie on the morning of April 20.
Weiss’s Wife Has Been Accused of His Murder
The victim's wife was taken into custody from her home in Waxahachie on April 20.
While the police did not specify what led them to Honrud, they revealed in a press release that it was a mix of technological advancements and witness statements. “[Investigators used] advancements in investigative techniques, modern technology and new information from a key witness,” the police said.
The motive behind the alleged murder remains unclear. At the time of his death, Weiss resided in the city of Plano near Lake Lewisville. His daughter, Carla Weiss, who was 22 years old when her father died, said she did not expect a breakthrough in the case all these years later.
“Hope is a funny thing. Hope has a way of strangling you, and so, at some point, I have probably accepted that there will never be an answer,” Carla said in an interview with Fox 4. “But acceptance doesn't kill. I dreamed of there being an answer, but I didn't expect one. 24 years is a long time. We are all so appreciative and grateful of this day,” she added.
Ryan Thomas, a sergeant with the Frisco Police Department, used the opportunity to warn criminals that they can be brought to justice even decades later. “Wounds, they don't fully heal. Families don't get the closure that they need, and law enforcement is just going to continue to get better at what they do. For those who you know think they're off scot-free, you know, I'd just say, look over your shoulder,” Thomas said.
In an official statement, Frisco Police Chief David Shilson thanked the investigators for their tireless efforts that ultimately yielded results. “We are thankful for our investigators who have put countless hours into this case, as well as the Waxahachie Police Department for their assistance with this arrest,” Shilson said.
The Investigation Continues
Shilson added that Honrud’s arrest would bring some respite to the victim’s family, but the investigation into the murder will continue. “For 24 years, the Weiss family has waited for answers. Today’s arrest is an important step toward justice, and we will continue working until everyone involved is held accountable,” the police chief said.
Meanwhile, Carla says that some questions still remain unanswered, as she believes Honrud might not have acted alone. According to her, Weiss was a large man who could not have been killed by Honrud alone. The police are now seeking the public’s help to gather further clues about the case and have asked anyone with information to contact (972) 292-6010.
