A tragic incident that occurred in August 2025 left a 79-year-old man dead after he was struck by a Subaru driver in Colorado. An arrest affidavit obtained by Law & Crime reveals new details about the fatal crash.
A police report obtained by Law&Crime includes an arrest affidavit stating that the victim's wife was watching him from the front window of their home. According to the report, she observed a silver car traveling at a high speed that became airborne before striking her husband and sending him flying from the lawn mower.
Amy Delton, 37, is accused of hitting Robert “Bob” Selle on August 24, 2025. Selle was struck in front of his home in Calhan, a town about 80 miles southeast of Denver. Police said Delton admitted to smoking marijuana before the crash and acknowledged being under the influence of other substances.
Investigators recovered video footage from a neighbor's security camera that captured the vehicles movement. The footage showed Delton’s Subaru leaving the roadway and striking Selle.
The affidavit mentioned “Delton’s Subaru became airborne over the driveway.” After landing, the vehicle struck a barbed wire fence and entered the yard, where it hit Selle, who was operating a lawn mower.
Security footage also showed the vehicle overturning before coming to rest on its roof. According to the affidavit, "The Subaru continued overturning in the field, coming to rest on its roof."
The affidavit added, "Selle, after being thrown from the lawn mower, came to rest on the ground near the Subaru."
Police said Selle’s wife ran outside after witnessing the crash. Selle was initially responsive and spoke with his wife, but later lost conscious and died on the lawn.
The affidavit states, “For no obvious reason at the time, Delton failed to maintain control of the Subaru and the vehicle drifted off the right/ west side of the road." Investigators analyzed the vehicles airbag control module and determined that no braking or evasive steering occurred in the moments before the crash. Officers noted a strong odor of marijuana when they spoke with Delton.
Delton admitted that she used marijuana daily and took multiple medications, while also admitting that “she had recently tried methamphetamine for the first time.”
Officers who interviewed Delton said “she seemed mellow and was not very responsive to the EMS questions or treatment.” The affidavit said that her eyelids appeared heavy. Delton blamed the crash on two faulty tires and said the steering felt “weird and funny."
Delton was immediately taken to the hospital with “moderate” injuries, according to the Colorado State Police. It is not clear if charges will be filed as investigation is ongoing.
