A woman was killed, and a man seriously injured when they were thrown from their out-of-control boat and then struck by it, in what is being reported as a second fatal boat accident in Biscayne Bay within a week.
Woman killed in Miami's Biscayne Bay after being struck by boat.
The two victims, who have been identified as Claudia Orellanes and Neil Schwabe, were thrown from the 27-foot vessel into the waters near West Point and Crandon Park Marina on March 28, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
According to the FWC, after both victims were tossed from the boat, the vessel circled back and struck them again before running off on its own.
Schwabe was airlifted to a hospital, although his condition was not immediately clear, according to NBC Miami.
Fire rescue officials said a rescue operation was conducted, in which one person was found and taken to the hospital immediately.
“Working alongside the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the fire rescue team conducted a rescue operation after it was reported that a boat accident had taken place,” said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) Chief Gregory Logue.
“Drivers were deployed as part of the effort," Logue said.

A dramatic piece of footage obtained by the outlet shows a dual motor boat speeding in circles with no one on board before a law enforcement officer from another vessel jumped in and stopped it.
This deadly accident happened days after a Florida CEO was killed in a hit-and-run boat crash during an evening ride with his teenage son on March 25.
Davide Veglia, founder and president of South Florida-based ABTS Convention Services, was fatally struck by a larger boat while out in Biscayne Bay after 8 p.m. The father-son duo were on their seven-foot dinghy in a channel of Miami Beach when the larger boat struck them, ejecting both into the waters.
“We hear, 'Help, Help,' that is when I ran to the docks, and I saw like a silhouette or like a shadow of something, and we made it out, that’s someone, they need help, they need help,” Samuel Londono told WSVN.
“We instantly called the cops and let them know everything. I yelled for him to float before the police arrived, and he was floating there with his dad, holding him,” Enzo Avelino recalled about the incident on March 25.
“The father was unconscious when they retrieved him.”
The large vessel that struck the boat, causing the accident, is still being searched by authorities. No arrests have been made yet in the incident.
