A Mississippi mother was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill her infant son. 27-year-old Natchez native April Alexander is accused of sending alarming texts and videos to her baby’s father, including footage showing her holding the 4-month-old underneath a car.

Alexander sent images showing the baby halfway underneath a car

The baby’s father, who lives in California, called 911 on the morning of April 20, stating that Alexander was torturing their baby and was making threats against his life. In one of the images, allegedly sent by Alexander, the baby was half underneath a car.

One picture also showed the woman placing her foot on the infant’s stomach. Meanwhile, she warned the baby’s father that she would run over their son with her car. “I’m finna put him on the ground and run him over — Dead a–,” one of the texts read.

Alexander allegedly also sent a video of her holding the baby’s face while he cried. “Your daddy don’t want you,” she screamed at the infant. The Natchez Police launched a search operation for Alexander after the father's call.

“At approximately 6:50 a.m. (on Monday), we got a call from the dad, who is in California. and he shared where she had been sending him stuff,” Natchez Police Chief Lee Best said in a statement to The Natchez Democrat.

The father shared the screenshots of the texts with the police, and later also posted them on social media. However, the posts were later deleted. Fortunately, the baby was found safe and was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services (CPS).

As the hunt for Alexander began, the police went door to door to find her. Finally, she was found at a home belonging to 22-year-old Jessica Griffin and 33-year-old Dandridge Coats. Alexander was then arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and felony child abuse. The accused may face additional charges as the investigation proceeds.

The Police also arrested Griffin and Coats

Griffin and Coats were also taken into custody by the police for allegedly hiding Alexander in their home. Both have been charged with hindering prosecution and rendering criminal assistance.

Talking about the additional arrests in the case, Best said, “Griffin and Coats attempted to hide out Alexander in their residence while officers were going door to door trying to locate her. Both were arrested once she was discovered inside.”

The motive behind Alexander’s actions is unclear, and more details about the case are expected to emerge later. Meanwhile, police have yet to decide whether the baby will remain in CPS custody or be placed with a family member.

The news comes just a few weeks after another Mississippi woman was arrested for alleged crimes against her child. In March, 40-year-old Cynthia Clemons was charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult after the remains of her 19-year-old disabled daughter were found in her apartment.

The discovery shocked the local community in Southaven. “It’s just sad for the children around here to witness something like that … it’s just a tragic situation. We’re praying for the family,” Clemons’ neighbor said in a statement to Live 5 News.
