77-year-old woman from Florida was mowed down in her own front yard while she was collecting her mail
A 77-year-old woman from Florida was allegedly hit in her front yard while collecting her mail by a drunk driver. It was later revealed that the driver was victim's neighbor.
With the increasing number of vehicles and cases of hit-and-run, burglary, and overall negligence, are our boundaries and front yards safer?
According to the police, tthe driver is accused of driving drunk who was a neighbor of the 77-year-old woman and lived within walking distance of the location of the accident. The driver allegedly veered off the road and struck the older woman down in her own front yard.
The victim has been identified as Vicki Noon, who was a retiree from Bradenton. The incident occurred in the afternoon on May 1, when a 40-year-old man identified as Jordan Bread ran over Noon in her own front yard. Essentially, breaking the misconception that the front yard or the boundary of a house is safe, and essentially prevents one from any sort of harm. The police have described the case as a “hit and run crash.”
This case raises an important question: With the increasing number of vehicles and cases of hit-and-run crashes, burglary, and overall negligence, are our boundaries and front yards truly safe? Or, in today’s time, do we only hold onto the illusion of safety within the boundaries of our house?
Noon was “in the yard of her home,” located on the 5600 block of 11th Avenue West. According to a press release from the Bradenton Police Department, Bread is facing charges of DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and tampering with evidence.
Background
“At approximately 1 in the evening, BPD responded to the reports of a hit and run crash and located Vicki Noon, 77, deceased,” according to the press release of the police. “Witnesses reported seeing a gold sedan leaving the scene of the crash.”
Authorities canvassed the neighbourhood for security camera footage and obtained an image of the suspect’s car. A sergeant who was driving in the neighbourhood and “on the lookout for the vehicle” spotted it at a residence in the 7200 block of 13th Avenue West, “within walking distance of the crash scene,” according to the police. The press release also mentioned that Bread, “was at the residence and cooperated with the detectives.”
Noon’s family and neighbours told the local Fox affiliate, WTVT, that she was living in an area of Bradenton with other 55-and-up residents and enjoying her retirement.
“It was stolen from her,” said Noon’s daughter, Jennifer Mullholand, about her mother’s retirement. “It was stolen from my father, and it was stolen from my children, and her soon-to-be great-grandchild,” she added.
Bread is currently released on bond and is awaiting his next court date. With the increase in modern crimes, the concept of safety needs to be re-evaluated.
