The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said deputies began searching for Andres Bahamon-Prada, 43, after a relative reported him missing on May 16. Family members told investigators he had not been seen since May 7. Authorities later upgraded the case from a missing person investigation to a homicide inquiry after uncovering signs of foul play at the property where Bahamon-Prada lived with his 25-year-old son, Andres Bahamon.

According to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Fox News Digital, investigators said they detected the odor of decomposition while digging on the property after obtaining a search warrant. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the recovered remains.

The investigation rapidly escalated after deputies noticed several disturbing signs at the residence. Authorities said they found damaged doors that appeared to contain a bullet hole, a shell casing near the porch, and stains believed to be blood.

Detectives also discovered that Andres Bahamon-Prada’s silver 2007 Infiniti M35 was missing from the property. Investigators have not yet located the vehicle and believe it could contain evidence relevant to the homicide investigation.

Investigators said Bahamon became a focus of the case after deputies received statements from family members and uncovered disturbing evidence connected to the property. According to the affidavit, Bahamon allegedly sent his mother, who lives in Germany, a photograph showing a man appearing dead near wooden steps outside the home.

Detectives said the image showed a motionless man matching Bahamon-Prada’s description with a large red stain near his head and shirt.

The victim's mother later told deputies that she believed her grandson had killed his father. She claimed Bahamon said the victim was dead, and “in hell where he deserves to be,” because he was an “evil person,” and “a junkie.”

Authorities said Bahamon initially told deputies he last saw his father on May 7, after Bahamon- Prada returned home. He also told him that someone unknown was coming to pick him up.

After detectives dug deeper into the case and gathered evidence, the missing person case shifted into a homicide investigation.

Bahamon was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence. Investigators believe he concealed or moved the body to interfere with the investigation, according to the affidavit.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office is continuing to search for the missing Infinity car and urged anyone with information about the vehicle or the case to contact investigators.
