Mackenzie Shirilla was just 17 years old when she crashed her car into a brick wall in Ohio, back in 2022. The impact of the incident was so brutal that it not only left her injured but also killed two other people in the car. While one of them was her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, the other victim was a friend of theirs named Davion Flanagan.

According to a recent report by TMZ, Shirilla had received a message from her boyfriend, Russo, almost a month before the crash. In his message, the 20-year-old Russo told his then-girlfriend that they needed some time away from each other.

Mackenzie Shirilla Got A Ominous Text From Dominic Russo Before Crash

Sent on June 2, 2022, the message by Russo read “Kenzie u know I love u but I don’t think we should be together at this point there isnt very much time on earth yaknow. I dont want u to think im abandoning u i wish it could work but i don’t think its going to at this point especially with the threats. We should just breakup so we can both find happiness somewhere else.”

While the message clearly indicated Russo’s intentions to break up with Shirilla, it also refered alleged threats she made if he went ahead with it. Investigators and prosecutors concluded that the teenager intentionally caused the crash, believing she was upset over their breakup.

Though she is serving a prison sentence for murder, Shirilla has consistently maintained that she has no memory of the incident. Regarding her actions behind the wheel, she claimed to have blacked out moments before her car sped out of control and crashed into a wall, killing two people.

Mackenzie Shirilla Continued Posting Obituary Notes For Dead Beau

MORE ON:
Murder

It was nearly four months after the crash that Shirilla was identified as a suspect and arrested on double homicide charges. In the meantime, the teenager regularly posted messages on an online obituary page set up for Russo, even as authorities alleged that she was responsible for his death..

A post written by Shirilla in August 2022 read, “I miss you nug. I still feel like your just going to walk in the door any second. I miss your laugh your perfect smile. I feel your energy around me everyday i just wish it was physical. God u are the last person to deserve this you had such a perfect life ahead of you… i wish i told you all this more. Please wait for me.”

According to prosecutors, Shirilla willingly declined to apply the brakes to the speeding car since it was a premeditated plan of murder. Back in 2023, the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge had underlined her chilling motive behind the crime. Nancy Margaret Ruso had stated, “She had a mission, and she executed it with precision. The decision was death.”

Mackenzie Shirilla Claimed She Had No Memory Of Crash

During the course of the investigation, Shirilla, according to the court documents, had testified that she had no memory of the day of the crash. She only recalls having a blacked-out vision the moment her car hit the wall.

She had stated, “I remember turning onto the street, and then my vision fades to black. It really kills me not to be able to remember anything. I promise you I would tell you. I’ve been asking my therapist why I don’t remember, and she said it’s because of trauma. I’m gonna try to get myself hypnotized and make myself remember.”
