A Texas man has been accused of killing his grandmother, allegedly shooting her after an argument over allowance money and dragging her body onto a patio.
A man from Texas was arrested for shooting his grandmother over allowance money.
Rontrell Jackson, 21, has been taken into custody and charged with one count of murder in connection with the shooting of his 68-year-old grandmother, according to authorities. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
According to a press release from the Arlington Police Department, officers responded at about 4:40 p.m. on March 20 to a call at an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Carriage House Circle regarding an unresponsive woman found outside her front door on a patio.
A family member placed the emergency call and reported that the 68-year-old woman was found outside the residence, draped with a blanket.
Responding officers determined the victim had been shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Jackson and the victim were recently involved in a “heated argument” that “led to the loss of Mr. Jackson’s allowance money,” according to the Arlington Police Department.
During questioning, Jackson allegedly admitted to “shooting the victim earlier that morning inside the apartment, then dragging her body out to the patio,” according to authorities.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Jackson with the murder of the 68-year-old woman. Jackson was taken into custody and booked into Arlington City Jail.
During a search of the apartment, officers recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, according to the press release.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office is expected to release the victim’s identity after notifying her next of kin and will determine the official cause and manner of death.
Jackson was later transferred to the Tarrant County Jail, where he is held on a $750,000 bond, according to the records.
It is not yet clear when he will appear in court.
According to authorities, investigation remains ongoing and more details may be released.
