Mango Founder’s Son Arrested After Probe Finds Inconsistencies in Father’s Accidental Death

Jonathan was accompanying Isak when he fell off a mountain.
Spanish businessman Jonathan Andic has been taken into custody in connection with the death of his father, Isak Andic, the co-founder of fashion retailer Mango. Isak, 71, died in December 2024 during a family hiking trip in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona.
He fell 100 meters down a ravine, and Jonathan Andic, 45, was the only person accompanying him. Jonathan, the vice chairman of Mango, told the police that his father was walking a few steps behind him on the mountain trail. According to him, he turned around after hearing a rockslide and saw his father falling down the ravine.
Isak’s Death Was Initially Ruled an Accident
Isak, 71, died in December 2024 during a family hiking trip.
Isak had a net worth of around 4.5 billion U.S. dollars at the time of his death. His demise drew reactions from various businessmen and politicians, and authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances. Police initially ruled the death an accident, and the case was closed in early 2025.
However, it was reopened months later as investigators noticed inconsistencies in Jonathan’s account. In October 2025, Jonathan was named the primary suspect. According to Spanish media, Jonathan and Isak had a strained relationship and were involved in an argument shortly before the latter’s death.
Detectives also revealed that they had gathered evidence against Jonathan. To collect further clues, they analyzed his mobile phone data. The Andic family released a statement at the time through their representative.
It read, “They wish to show their respect for the proceedings carried out in this regard and will continue to cooperate, as they have so far, with the competent authorities. Furthermore, they trust that this process will conclude as soon as possible and that Jonathan Andic's innocence will be proven.”
On May 19, Jonathan was arrested by the Catalonia police as a person under formal investigation. No charges have been filed against him as of now, and the probe remains ongoing. Meanwhile, he maintains his innocence and says his father’s death was an accident.
The Andic family has now released another statement, confirming the development. “Jonathan Andic is currently testifying as part of the proceedings regarding the accident on December 14, 2024. At this time, we cannot add much more because the case is under a court-ordered gag order. There has been, and will continue to be, maximum cooperation within the framework of these proceedings,” the family’s spokesman said.
The Father and Son’s Role in Mango
Jonathan has been arrested by the Catalonia police as a person under formal investigation.
Isak, a Turkish-Spanish businessman, founded Mango along with his brother, Nahman Andic, in 1984. The brand’s first store was opened in Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona. Over the years, the clothing line became a huge success, and its stores opened across the world.
Coming to Jonathan, he was born in 1981 to Isak and his ex-wife, Neus Raig Tarragó. After attending various prestigious schools, he joined Mango in 2005. In 2007, he was tasked with launching the brand’s first menswear line.
Jonathan was eventually named the vice president of the company. Following Isak’s death, he shifted focus to managing the family’s holding companies, including Punta Na Holding, S.A. Jonathan is currently in a relationship with Paula Navarro Tarrés, with whom he welcomed a baby in September 2025.
