Michael Jackson’s Death: Conrad Murray, Convicted In Killing The King Of Pop Continues Medical Practice Even Now

What happened to Conrad Murray, convicted of involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson’s death in 2009 brought the world of music and dance to a complete standstill. The beloved King of Pop passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest, merely weeks away from embarking on his This Is It world tour.
While the news broke a million hearts of his fans across the globe, what came as an unexpected shock was when the singer’s death was ruled a homicide by a Las Vegas court. It was Jackson’s personal physician who was held accountable for involuntary manslaughter.
How Conrad Murray Became Michael Jackson’s Personal Physician
It was in 2006 when Jackson was formally introduced by a member of his entourage to Dr. Conrad Murray. The cardiologist’s services were called upon during one of the singer’s personal trips to Las Vegas. It was Jackson’s daughter Paris who had fallen ill, and Murray treated her.
It formed the foundation of a great friendship between the two men. Three years later, in 2009, Jackson hired Murray to become his personal physician as he set his eyes on the glorious This Is It world tour ahead.
According to a report by CBS News, Dr. Murray received a handsome salary of about $150,000 per month from Jackson. Incidentally, the cardiologist was also facing foreclosure on his Las Vegas home when the King of Pop employed him.

On June 25, 2009, Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest due to acute propofol intoxication in Los Angeles.
It was his physician, Dr. Murray, who reportedly found him unconscious in the bedroom of his residence. He had a weak pulse and wasn’t breathing, so he administered CPR. Meanwhile, paramedics were frantically called upon for assistance. Jackson was rushed to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A few months later, in August 2009, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner declared Jackson’s death a homicide. Conrad Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter, but he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution alleged that Murray enacted gross medical negligence and administered propofol to the singer without proper monitoring equipment. It was also established that the cardiologist waited for over an hour before calling on paramedics to help resuscitate Jackson.
Murray’s Imprisonment, Release And Aftermath
Conrad Murray was sentenced to four years in prison, but was eventually released after two years. His shortened sentence was accounted for the time served.
After his release, Dr. Murray made several attempts to revive his medical career but failed. His medical license was suspended in California and Nevada. But he reinstated it in Texas, a process he had allegedly started while still inside prison.
By May 2023, the formerly convicted cardiologist opened up the DCM Medical Institute in Trinidad and Tobago. In a press statement, he claimed that he opened up a venture of his own after his colleagues made him feel like he was a threat to be around. There was also a brief period when he practiced at a private nursing home in Chaguanas.
As of 2016, Conrad Murray continued to reside in Trinidad and Tobago. In 2018, it was reported that he took legal action against the medical board there, which refused to accept his annual registration fees. It barred him from continuing to practice medicine.
His medical licenses remain suspended across the U.S.
