Trevor John Huber confessed to using methamphetamines in the days before the killing.

What Happened

According to authorities, Trevor John Huber called 911 at approximately 1:18 a.m. on December 21, 2018, and made a series of unusual statements during the call. When deputies responded to a residence in the 300 block of North Main Street in Cardwell, they discovered the decapitated body of Charlotte Wilson.

Investigators said Huber answered the door naked when officers arrived. According to responding deputies, “The male again appeared to be disoriented and possibly impaired by illegal narcotics.”

Authorities also recovered a hammer and a knife from the kitchen table, which investigators believed were used in the killing, according to KTMO Radio. Huber was taken into custody at the scene.

What Huber Told Investigators

Court documents alleged that Huber told investigators he had used methamphetamine a few days before the killing and believed his mother was poisoning him.

He told deputies “he was concerned he killed his mother,” KAIT reported.

Investigators also said Huber later wrote a chilling note that read, “I killed my mother,” before swallowing the paper.

Statement From the Prosecutor

Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain praised investigators from the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their work on the case.

“I want to thank the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their professional and diligent work in investigating and solving this homicide and in all the cases they handle,” Jain said.

About Methamphetamine

Court records indicate methamphetamine use played a central role in Huber's state of mind leading up to the killing.

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that can cause agitation, anxiety, paranoia, increased heart rate and blood pressure, as well as elevated respiration and body temperature.

The agency warns that high doses may lead to convulsions, cardiovascular collapse, stroke, or death.

Lil Poppa’s Mom Says Methamphetamine Was Present at Time of His Death

In separate news, late rapper Lil Poppa’s mother said toxicology results showed methamphetamine was present in his system at the time of his death in February.

On May 18, Lynn Hickson shared a statement on Instagram discussing her son’s autopsy and toxicology reports.

“The reports confirmed that methamphetamine was in his system at the time of his passing. As his family, we truly believe the drugs played a major part in what happened,” she wrote.

“Though he did struggle with depression and anxiety, we know in our hearts that the substances affecting his mind and judgment made an already difficult battle even heavier.”
