100 days of Nancy Guthrie Disappearance: Sheriff Says They Are ‘Closer’ to Solving the Case

The investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has now lasted more than 100 days. The 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie was reported missing from her home in Catalina Foothills on February 1.
Since then, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have gathered several clues but have not yet identified a suspect. Despite no public breakthrough in more than 100 days, Chris Nanos said investigators believe they are getting closer to solving the case.

Chris Nanos gave an update on the investigation in a recent interview with 13 News. The sheriff said deputies from his department and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation are still working to identify the suspect. “They are working hard to get this resolved, and I think every day they get closer,” he said.
Nanos also again responded to claims by Kash Patel that the FBI was initially excluded from the investigation. “Day one, the FBI was involved in this case. And they continue to be involved in this case. Every single day,” Nanos said.
As months have passed without Nancy Guthrie being located, some have expressed concern that the case could grow cold. However, Chris Nanos said he does not believe that will happen. “There’s way too much work to be done, that is ongoing, with some of the physical evidence we have. And we’re not going to give up on it just because it’s been 100 days,” he said, adding that the investigation is not going cold.
Nanos made a similar statement in March, saying the Guthrie case was “not even close to” becoming a cold case. “We have some DNA that we think is still workable. The case will get us there. We let the evidence show us the way, and that’s what we base everything on,” he said during an appearance on the Bill Buckmaster Show.

As for the ongoing investigation, Nanos said deputies are focused on obtaining DNA evidence results, though the process will take time. “It moves at a snail’s pace, I guess for some. But for my investigative team, and for me, we look at this as, no, this is doing exactly what we need it to do,” he elaborated.
Nanos concluded by saying that he believes eventually the detectives will be able to arrest the suspect. He also urged the public to share any information they have about the case. “We need you to call us. We, we know somebody out there knows what happened here,” he added.
Investigators believe Guthrie was forcibly taken from her home, as a masked individual was seen tampering with the Ring camera outside her home on the night of her disappearance. Although ransom notes were received shortly after the incident, their authenticity could not be verified. DNA samples recovered from the crime scene are now being re-examined at an FBI facility in Quantico after a private lab analysis in Florida failed to yield results.
