A hit-and-run in 2017 resulted in the death of a 63-year-old cyclist, Tony Parsons. It happened on the A82 near Bridge of Orchy in Scotland. The suspect, Alexander McKellar, struck the victim with a pickup truck.

While he was reportedly drunk when he drove and committed the crime, it was his twin brother who then helped him dispose of the victim’s body in complete secrecy. The crime was concealed by the two for almost three years before McKellar’s fiancée helped expose the crime to authorities.

Alexander McKellar Killed Victim In Hit And Run

A hunter and game-keeper from the Scottish Highlands’ Auch Estate, McKellar was heavily drunk on the night of September 29, 2017, when he struck a man with his pickup truck. He wasn’t alone in the car and was accompanied by his twin brother, Robert McKellar, in the passenger seat.

The 63-year-old victim, Parsons, was riding his bicycle when he met with the misfortune. While he allegedly didn’t die on the spot after the hit and run, neither Alexander nor Robert called for help.

Twin Brothers Concocted Plan To Hide Crime

The McKellar brothers dragged Parsons and his bike to the side of the road instead of offering any help. They left him to die and drove back to their estate in the Scottish Highlands, where they had a change of clothes. The brothers then drove back to the crime scene to take Parsons’ body with them to their estate.

They allegedly first left the deceased’s body abandoned in the woods before burying him on the grounds.

Alexander’s Fiancée Helped Reveal Hit And Run To Authorities

The crime would have remained undisclosed if it weren’t for Alexander’s fiancée, Caroline Muirhead, getting a whiff of it. The forensic pathologist met McKellar through a dating app in October 2020, but was unaware of the crime he had committed in the past.

It was in November 2020 when Alexander proposed to Muirhead and then revealed the crime he had committed. Recalling the horrific time in a recent Netflix documentary titled Should I Marry A Murderer, the fiancée revealed that Alexander admitted it was a grave mistake and claimed to be not in his right mind.

However, Caroline did not report to the authorities right away. In December 2020, Alexander informed that his estate’s new owners were trying to add new buildings on the ground where Parsons was buried. He requested Muirhead to help him shift the remains.

But this time, his fiancée finally decided to speak up. She reported both Alexander and Robert to the authorities for the hit-and-run they committed in 2017.

Alexander McKellar’s Whereabouts Now

The McKellar brothers were arrested on Dec. 30, 2020. Since Parsons’ body had not been found, they were released without charges. During this time, Muirhead continued seeing Alexander while secretly planning to expose him to authorities. She tricked him into revealing the location where the body was buried, which she eventually shared with police.

Based on an autopsy report on Parsons’ remains, both brothers were charged with murder. Later, prosecutors agreed to a plea deal. Both Alexander and Robert pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice, as well as culpable homicide.

The court sentenced Alexander to 12 years in prison, while Robert was ordered to serve five years and three months.

Fast forward to January 2025, a BBC report claimed that Alexander settled a civil case with Parsons’ family out of court. His insurance company reportedly secured a six-figure payment to be given away to the victim’s family.
