‘We Don’t Use Pain for Gain’: DA Urges Alleged Victims in Eric Swalwell Case to Speak Up

Democratic Rep.Eric Swalwell is currently facing a probe by the House Ethics Committee after several women accused him of s----- misconduct. The ongoing case has not only dampened the politician's gubernatorial race but also led Congress to reportedly push for his resignation.

As the scandal continues to draw attention, the Alameda District County Attorney's Office in Oakland, recently announced it had reached out to alleged victims of misconduct involving Swalwell. District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson said on April 23 during a press conference.

The district attorney spoke before reporters outside the Oakland courthouse. She specifically addressed alleged victims and assured them that they were not alone in the fight for justice.

She further said the pain they experienced would not become a mere talking point and emphasized compassion for victims regardless of the power of the accused.

In her words, “I need victims of s----- assault to know that we don’t use pain for gain. It’s not a talking point. It’s a reality that continues to haunt us. Whether it’s the Epstein Files, allegations against Cesar Chavez, allegations against Eric Swalwell or any of the countless s----- assault cases we see in our office every day, they all deserve the same energy and compassion. As the case remains under investigation, multiple women have made allegations against Swalwell. One of them includes model Lonna Drewes, who accused the politician of s----- abuse inside a Hollywood hotel.

Other accusers include women who were ex-staffers of the Democrat. One woman claimed that Swalwell intentionally intoxicated her and then without consent assaulted her.

The district attorney has said that investigators are reviewing all statements from alleged victims. She urged others with similar experiences to open up and not fear any retaliation. Dickson also said some of the complainants stated that they knew something was amiss in Swalwell’s behavior, but did not feel safe speaking up at that time.

Swalwell’s political career has hit a major roadblock since the misconduct allegations. Besides stepping down from Congress and canceling his candidature for the gubernatorial race, he has issued a blanket denial of all the allegations.

Speaking to CNN, he said, “These allegations are false and come on the eve of an election against the front-runner for governor. For nearly 20 years, I have served the public as a prosecutor and a congressman and have always protected women. I will defend myself with the facts and, where necessary, bring legal action.”
